Father’s day today. A chance to play some casual golf games. It had me thinking about motor memory – or that ability of humans to perform complex physical tasks quickly, efficiently, and with minimal conscious effort after repeated practice. This is presumably rooted someplace deep in survival and reproductive success. It reminded me of someone’s musings I once came across. “I can’t believe running 2 miles only burns 250 calories!” says modern man in disbelief. “How great that running 2 miles only burns 250 calories!” says one of our primal ancestors for whom food was not readily available or mass produced. We are ancient bodies containing multitudes of advantageous developments that sometimes put us at odds with the technically modern world we live in. I will read more about this.
